Michael's dwelling in beijing is built in the style of conventional courtyard dwelling, one of the most conventional forms of chinese architecture. The hotel is surrounded by numerous hutongs, which are small alleys constructed in the 13th century running between the courtyards. Most of the hutongs remaining today date back to the ming and qing dynasties, giving the hotel a historic and cultural atmosphere.
